To benefit from the methods of study and the use of an international language and, of course, because of broadness and variety of the audience, it is very essential for the experts in the field of Mahdism to study the Orientalists’ views on Mahdism. In this regard, the examination of the views of some well-known Orientalists like Wilferd Madelung is doubly necessary due to his outstanding and high influential research characteristics, and diversity of his works.
This article uses the descriptive-analytic method. The rule of children and the establishment of the Day of Judgment are two views that Madelung applies about the world after Imam Mahdi, and considers the establishment of the Day of Judgment in agreement with most Hadiths. After the review, it becomes clear that this field has four views. Although some researchers believe in the narrations related to the establishment of the Day of Judgment, the view of the partial resurrection (Rajˈat) of the Imams during the Imam Mahdi’s appearance and their ruling after Imam Mahdi (pbuh) is more compatible with the Hadiths.
